About Grailed

Grailed was founded in 2013 as a New York start-up by Arun Gupta, Julian Connor and Jake Metzger. It began as a marketplace for men's clothing and now covers menswear and womenswear.

Listings range from clothing, footwear and accessories to high-end collectibles, and from luxury brands to streetwear labels.

In October 2022, sneaker marketplace GOAT Group announced that it was acquiring Grailed. Grailed kept operating under its own brand, and its about page, read in October 2026, says it is owned and operated by GOAT Group.

Before the sale, GOAT Group led a $60 million Series B round in Grailed in 2021. According to Global Venturing, that round brought Grailed's total funding to $80 million.

Are Items on Grailed Authentic?

The FAQ on Grailed's Trust page, saying all listings are screened by machine moderation and moderators review high-risk listingsSource: Grailed Trust page FAQ, grailed.com/trust, captured October 2026

Is Grailed authentic, or does it sell fakes? Grailed is a peer-to-peer marketplace, so items are listed by individual sellers and Grailed checks the listings. Its help center, read in October 2026, says it has "a zero tolerance policy for replicas, counterfeits, and inauthentic items", that listings deemed inauthentic will be deleted, and that sellers may face suspension or account deletion.

Grailed calls its process Grailed Verification. According to its Trust pages, read in October 2026, every listing is subject to screening by a machine moderation system, and listings that Grailed rates as high-risk are reviewed by human moderators before they hit the feed.

Grailed says it rates risk on factors such as how often a brand or style is copied, the item's estimated value, how the price compares with that value, recent changes to the seller's account and the seller's track record. Its moderators look at the item's design, craftsmanship and details, and at points such as wash tags, logo size, shape and embroidery.

Grailed says listings that show the Grailed Verified badge have been reviewed by its in-house team or by a vetted partner seller. Grailed says its moderators do not review individual listings from these trusted partners, who verify their own items or source them from manufacturers. Not every listing is reviewed by a person, so check whether the one you want shows the badge.

Grailed's Code of Conduct (archived copy from January 2026) tells sellers not to sell fakes or replicas and to keep their listings honest and accurate. When an item is determined to be inauthentic, Grailed says the listing is deleted and the seller is warned or frozen, at its discretion.

Sellers describe and photograph their own items. Grailed's help article on selling (archived copy from March 2026) says an item that qualifies for its digital authentication process is reviewed by its team of authenticators before it is made available for sale, and that the team may ask the seller for more photos.

What can a buyer do? Read the listing closely, look at every photo, check the seller's feedback, and ask the seller questions before you buy. Keep the payment on Grailed. Its Code of Conduct says that purchasing through Grailed means the transaction may be eligible for Grailed Purchase Protection.

If you buy an expensive piece, you can also get an independent authentication as soon as it arrives. Do it quickly, because Grailed asks buyers to report any issue within 3 calendar days of receiving the item.

How Does Grailed Work?

Here is how Grailed works, from creating a listing to paying for an item.

To start, anyone can create an account on Grailed and begin browsing or listing items for sale. Sellers can create listings by uploading high-quality photos, providing detailed descriptions, and specifying relevant information such as brand, size, and condition.

Grailed's app and website have search and filters by category, brand and size. Buyers can interact with sellers by leaving comments or asking questions on the listing page.

In terms of selling bags on the site, Grailed allows users to list a variety of bag styles, including backpacks, totes, crossbody bags, and more. However, it's worth noting that sellers are responsible for accurately representing the items they sell, including providing authentic photos and descriptions.

Grailed also provides a feedback system where buyers can leave reviews and ratings based on their experiences with sellers. This helps establish a reputation system within the Grailed community and encourages trust and transparency among users.

Grailed is free for buyers. According to its help center, read in October 2026, sellers pay a 9% commission on sales of $120 and above and, for sales on or after May 20, 2026, 6% (minimum $1.99) on sales under $120, plus a separate payment processing fee. For sellers in the US who are onboarded with Stripe, that fee is 3.49% + 0.49 USD on domestic payments. Grailed says it reserves the right to change its fees at any time, so check its fees page before you list.

Overall, Grailed works like most peer-to-peer marketplaces. Sellers list their own items, buyers ask questions and pay on the platform, and Grailed sets the rules on verification, shipping and buyer protection.

Why is Grailed so Cheap?

Prices on Grailed are often below retail, mainly because of the nature of the marketplace itself. As a platform that facilitates the buying and selling of fashion items, Grailed hosts a wide range of second-hand or pre-owned products. This presence of second-hand items is a key factor in why prices on Grailed can be more budget-friendly compared to retail prices.

When users list their items on Grailed, they often price them based on their perceived value and market demand. Because these items are pre-owned, many are priced below their original retail value.

Several sellers often list similar items, so it pays to compare listings before you buy.

Prices still vary depending on factors such as brand, condition, rarity, and demand.

Before you buy, compare the price with similar listings, check the photos and the seller's feedback, and look for the Grailed Verified badge.

Does Grailed Have Good Customer Service?

On Trustpilot, Grailed had a rating of 3.0 out of 5 from 3,026 reviews in October 2026. Ratings on open review sites change over time and reflect the customers who choose to post.

Grailed's Purchase Protection is the main safety net for buyers. According to its help center, read in October 2026, it applies if Grailed finds that the item is inauthentic, that it materially differs from its description in color, condition, fabric or measurement, or that you were sent the wrong item. Issues must be reported within 3 calendar days from the date you receive the item.

If something goes wrong, contact Grailed's support team quickly and keep your photos and messages. Grailed says photographic evidence, written statements and other documentation may be required to review a case.

Conclusion: Legit or Not?

So, is Grailed legit? Yes, Grailed is a legitimate marketplace for buying and selling fashion. It has been running since 2013, has been owned by GOAT Group since 2022, and sets its own rules for checking listings, shipping and buyer protection. It offers a wide range of designer and streetwear pieces.

Grailed says every listing is subject to machine screening and that human moderators review high-risk ones before they go live. Since individual sellers list their own items, you still do best when you check the badge, the seller's feedback and the photos, and report any problem within days of delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if Grailed is legit?

Grailed itself is a real, operating marketplace. For a single listing, check whether it carries the Grailed Verified badge, read the seller's feedback, ask the seller questions, and pay on Grailed so the order may be eligible for Purchase Protection.

Does Grailed sell fakes?

Grailed's rules do not allow them. Its Trust page says that when an item is determined to be inauthentic, the listing is deleted and the seller is warned or frozen. Because sellers list their own items and not every listing is reviewed by a person, look for the Grailed Verified badge and report any problem within 3 calendar days of receiving your item.

Do people still use Grailed?

Yes. Grailed was still operating in October 2026, and its help center articles were being updated in July 2026. Its about page says Grailed is owned and operated by GOAT Group.

How long do Grailed sellers have to ship?

Under Grailed's Shipping Policy, read in October 2026, sellers have 7 calendar days from the date of purchase to add tracking and drop the item with the carrier for standard delivery, and 2 business days for Expedited Delivery. If a standard order is not shipped in time, it is canceled and the buyer is refunded. Delivery after that depends on the carrier and where the item ships from.
