Black Bay models are the most copied Tudor line, and the best replicas reproduce the snowflake hands and bezel closely. A Tudor watch authentication looks at the dial printing, hands, bezel, case finishing, crown, engravings and, where you can show it, the movement. A magnified date under a cyclops lens on a Black Bay or Pelagos is a strong warning sign.

What we check on Tudor
How to tell a real Tudor from a fake
The snowflake hour hand is the quickest tell on a Black Bay or Pelagos. Replicas often round its edges or fill the lume unevenly, then fail on the dial, the date window and the finishing.
01
Snowflake hands
Symmetric facets, crisp points and level lume on the snowflake hour hand.
02
Dial printing
Shield or rose logo for the era, fonts, indices and lume plots under magnification.
03
Date window
Date font, alignment and a date disc that matches the dial. No cyclops on a Black Bay or Pelagos.
04
Case back
Solid on Black Bay and Pelagos divers, so a see-through back there is a red flag. Display backs: the caliber and its finishing.
05
Bezel
Insert color, numerals and click. The Black Bay Chrono has a fixed tachymeter bezel.
06
Case and crown
Brushed and polished transitions, the crown tube color and the logo on the crown.
07
Engravings
Serial at 6 o'clock and reference at 12 o'clock between the lugs on most models: depth, font and fit with the model.
08
Warranty card
Completed by an official retailer, with an NFC chip on cards since 2020. One checkpoint only, since cards get copied.

Read your Tudor Reference Number
Tudor engraves the reference between the lugs at 12 o'clock, and the papers repeat it, as in M79360N-0019. Every watch of that model shares the same reference and it carries no date. Counterfeiters copy real references from listings, so have the watch authenticated by our experts.

We do not date a Tudor from its serial, because published Tudor serial charts are dealer estimates rather than Tudor data. We check that the serial and reference engravings are cleanly cut and fit the model. Our free reference number check reads the model reference, which names a model, not your watch.
Not on its dive and sports models. A Black Bay or Pelagos has a plain date window, so a cyclops on one is a warning sign of a fake or a modified watch. Some older Tudor dress models, such as the Prince Date-Day, do have a cyclops, so we judge it against the reference.
On most models the serial is engraved between the lugs at 6 o'clock and the model reference between the lugs at 12 o'clock, so the bracelet or strap has to come off to see them. The reference is also printed on the warranty card.
No. Tudor watches sold since 2020 come with a five-year international warranty card completed by an official retailer. Its NFC chip opens TUDOR Watch ID, Tudor's web app, which shows the watch's details on a phone. It helps, but it is one checkpoint and cards can be copied or moved, so we check that the card matches the serial and reference engraved on the watch and then check the watch.
Start with the snowflake hour hand: symmetric facets, sharp points and level lume. A real Black Bay diver has a solid case back, so a see-through back is a red flag, and its date versions have no cyclops. Then check the dial print, the bezel click and the bracelet.
Yes. Ask the seller for clear photos of the dial, the hands, the case sides, the case back, the clasp, the engravings between the lugs and the warranty card, and upload them before you pay. A professional authenticator compares them with verified Tudor references.
