Designer bag authentication from photos
Bought a designer bag on resale, or about to pay for one? Upload clear photos and LegitGrails authenticators examine the details that copies get wrong: stitching, hardware, stamps, codes, materials and the interior. What we check on a bag
- Stitching. Stitch length, angle, thread colour and how evenly it runs along the handles, edges and corners.
- Hardware. Engraving font, spacing and finish on zipper pulls, clasps, rings and feet.
- Stamps and logos. The heat stamp or logo plate: font, spacing, depth and placement.
- Codes and tags. Date codes, serial numbers and tags, read against the brand's format for that model and period. A real code can sit on a fake bag, so a code never decides alone.
- Materials. Leather grain, how the canvas pattern lines up across seams, edge paint and lining fabric.
- Interior. The inside label, pockets, lining and how the interior is finished.
- Extras. Authenticity cards, dust bags and boxes are checked too, but they are easy to buy separately, so they only support the result.

- Hardware engravings, such as the zipper pull and clasp
- Serial number, date code or serial tag, if the bag has one

Bag authentication questions
How much does it cost to get a bag authenticated?
Most designer bags cost $15 for a result in 12 hours and $35 for a result in 30 minutes. Hermès and Chanel bags cost $25 to $55. You choose the turnaround when you upload your photos.
How do I know if my designer bag is authentic?
Compare the stitching, hardware engravings, heat stamp, inside label and any code with a confirmed authentic example of the same model and period. Copies often get one or two of these right, rarely all of them. If you are not sure, upload photos and an authenticator checks every detail for you.
How long does bag authentication take?
You choose 12 hours, 6 hours, 2 hours or 30 minutes. The 30-minute option is offered when an authenticator is free to take your order straight away. We work 24/7.
Can a bag be authenticated from photos?
Yes. Our authenticators compare your photos with a large reference database of authentic and counterfeit bags. If a detail is missing or unclear, we ask for another photo. When the photos cannot settle it, you get an Unable to verify result rather than a guess.
Is there an app to authenticate designer bags?
Yes. You can upload your photos in the LegitGrails app for iPhone or here on the website. The same authenticators check your bag either way, and you choose the turnaround when you upload.
