Sunglasses serial number checker, read from the arm
Type the code printed inside the arm of your sunglasses or glasses, such as RB2140 901 50□22 150 or GG0747S 001 55□19-145. The checker finds the brand and names each part.

What a designer eyewear arm code actually tells you
What people call a sunglasses serial number is the frame code printed inside one arm. On designer eyewear it is the model number, a color code and three sizes in millimeters: lens width, bridge width and temple length, often with the lens category at the end. It is not a serial: every pair of the same model, color and size carries the same code. Each brand writes it its own way, so this checker reads Ray-Ban, Oakley, Prada, Miu Miu, Versace, Burberry, Gucci, Saint Laurent, Cartier and Tom Ford, and names the model where the brand's own store does. A correct code does not prove the pair is genuine, because counterfeiters print real codes copied from listings.
It tells you the code is built the way that brand builds it and what each part names: the model, the colors and the size. That is a floor, not a verdict. A well-formed code does not prove the pair is genuine, because counterfeiters copy real codes from listings and boxes, and a CE mark or Made in Italy is printed on fakes too. What is useful is agreement: the code should name the model you are holding, its color, and a size that fits when you measure the lenses. The same code should be on the box label and the care card. A mismatch is worth a closer look, not proof of a fake.

How a sunglasses serial number is built
Every brand on this page prints the same kinds of parts, each in its own order, and the tables below show them. The model number is shared by every pair of that model, and where the brand's own store sells it under a name, the checker shows the name. Some brands add parts of their own: a version letter after the model (Ray-Ban, Tom Ford), a lens code after a slash, Oakley's two character variant code, the S or V letter and the PR or PS line letters on Prada and Miu Miu, which print a frame color code and a lens code joined by a hyphen, a frame type letter (S or O) and sometimes extra letters on Gucci and Cartier, Saint Laurent's model name, and a three digit colorway number on frames made by Kering Eyewear. Many arms end with the lens category and, on Luxottica frames, a polarization letter, N or P.

Where the arm code sits on your designer eyewear
Sunglasses and eyewear
Inside one arm, usually the left: the model number, the color code and the three sizes, lens width, bridge and temple length. The other arm usually carries the brand name, where the pair was made and the CE mark. On thin metal arms the print is very small.
Our own photo of a pair our authenticators returned as authentic. Kering Eyewear says its style code can sit on either arm.
If your code does not read here
A few ordinary reasons, none of them a sign of a fake. Type the arm code from the start, without a store's letters in front of it. Oakley codes start with the letters OO, not two zeros. Some brands write the same frame two ways, inside the arm and in shops, and the checker reads both, but a code copied from a store's web address (such as SPR17W_E1AB_F05S0) is not one of them. Older frames can carry other formats: Gucci frames made before Kering Eyewear took over print codes such as GG 2875/S, older Versace frames print MOD. with three characters, and Cartier's own older frames carry only an engraved number. Brands outside this list are not read yet.
Designer eyewear arm code questions
The things people ask about designer eyewear arm codes, answered from the sources this page is built on.
Do sunglasses have a serial number?
Not in the sense of a number unique to your pair. The code inside the arm is the frame code: the model, the color and the size. Every pair of the same model and color carries the same one. A few brands engrave something extra, such as the number on older Cartier frames or a code etched into some Prada lenses, but no public source explains what those encode.
Where is the serial number on sunglasses?
Inside the arms. One arm carries the frame code, usually the left, and the other carries the brand name, where it was made and the CE mark. Kering Eyewear, which makes Gucci, Saint Laurent and Cartier eyewear, says its style code can be on either arm. On thin metal arms the print is small, so a magnifier or a phone photo helps.
What do the numbers on the inside of sunglasses mean?
Three of them are sizes in millimeters. The first is the lens width, the second, after the small box, is the bridge between the lenses, and the third is the temple length. The rest is the model number and the color code, and many arms end with the lens category, such as 3N.
What does 3N mean on sunglasses?
The number is the lens filter category from 0 to 4, set by the ISO 12312-1 standard. Category 3, the usual sunglass tint, lets through 8 to 18 percent of light, and category 4 is too dark for driving. On Luxottica-made frames such as Ray-Ban and Prada, N after it means the lens is not polarized and P means polarized.
How do I do a Prada sunglasses serial number check?
Prada offers no public lookup. What you can check is the arm code: S or V, PR and the model, the size, then the frame and lens color codes, such as SPR 17W 49□20 1AB-5S0 145 3N. Shops write the same frame as PR 17WS 1AB5S0. Prada's own store lists its frames under the same model and color codes, so you can compare the color it names with your pair.
Is there a Cartier glasses serial number checker?
Not from Cartier. Cartier eyewear made by Kering Eyewear, since 2017, carries a style code such as CT0002S with a colorway number, and this checker reads it. Older frames made by Cartier itself carry the Cartier signature and an engraved number instead. No public source says what that number encodes, and Cartier offers no public lookup for either, so a boutique is the place to ask.
How do I do a Miu Miu sunglasses serial number check?
Read the code inside the left arm, such as SMU 09W 53□22 1AB-5S0 135 3N. S means sunglasses, MU and 09W are the model, then the lens width and bridge, the frame color 1AB and the lens color 5S0, the temple length and the lens category. Miu Miu's own store lists its frames under the same model and color codes, so you can compare them with your pair.
How do I do a Versace sunglasses serial number check?
Inside the left arm, a Versace frame reads MOD. and four digits, such as MOD. 4361 GB1/87 53□18 140 3N. The four digits are the model, sold in shops as VE4361. GB1 before the slash is the frame color and 87 after it is the lens. The other arm carries VERSACE and MADE IN ITALY.
Can I look up a Gucci or Saint Laurent frame code?
Kering Eyewear has a public page that returns the declaration of conformity for a Gucci, Saint Laurent or Cartier style code. Finding it confirms the model exists. It cannot say whether a pair is genuine, because a counterfeit can carry a real style code.
Are Ray-Bans made in China fake?
Not on that alone. Ray-Ban makes frames in Italy and in China, and retailers that sell genuine stock say so. The country on the arm should match the box and the paperwork, and the code should name the model you are holding.
Does the CE mark prove sunglasses are real?
No. The CE mark is the maker's own declaration that the sunglasses meet EU safety rules, and counterfeiters print it too. It tells you nothing about who made the pair.
Why does my code read as a different code in shops?
Several brands print one form inside the arm and use another in shops. Prada's SPR 17W is PR 17WS in listings, Versace's MOD. 4361 is VE4361, Burberry's B 4216 is BE4216, and Tom Ford's TF711 is FT0711 on its own store. The checker reads both forms.
