Heat-Stamped Serial Code

Both bags in this pair are stamped 01-RU-0230, so the code itself proves nothing. The difference is the type. The authentic 1 is an upright stroke with only a short, blunt head. The counterfeit 1 has a long flag that slants down the left side of the stem. The counterfeit characters are also only outlined in foil, with leather showing through.

• The digit 1. Zoomed in, the authentic head is a small squared nub. The counterfeit flag is much longer and angles down toward the 0, a different piece of type for the same code.
• Foil fill. In the crops of 01 and RU the authentic characters are filled edge to edge. The counterfeit characters are rims of foil with leather showing through the middle. Wear can rub foil off a real code, so this only supports the digit shape.
• The other characters. The 0, 2, 3, R and U are close on both.

The type also changes between factories and years. Authentication course material we work from describes a curved 1 on Dior codes from before 2019, so a flagged 1 on an older code is not a red flag. Compare against authentic codes with the same factory letters and a similar date. Characters can sit unevenly on genuine codes, so spacing alone proves nothing.

The stamp sits on a narrow strip inside the bag. Use your phone flashlight at a low angle rather than the camera flash, and get close enough that the head of each 1 is sharp.

Christian Dior Paris Interior Stamp

The interior leather panel is stamped Christian Dior, PARIS and MADE IN ITALY. Scaled to the same width, the authentic letters are bold, with thick main strokes, and MADE IN ITALY has clear gaps between its words. The counterfeit letters are noticeably thinner at the same size, and the words of MADE IN ITALY sit as close as the letters inside them.

• Letter weight. The authentic Christian Dior has heavy main strokes. The counterfeit version is drawn with thin strokes and hairline serifs.
• MADE IN ITALY spacing. The authentic line leaves open space between MADE, IN and ITALY. On the counterfeit the gap between words is no wider than the gap between letters.
• Layout. Both stamps use the same three lines in the same order, so layout is not a tell here.

Dior's gold foil often spreads on genuine stamps, so bold letters that touch are normal. What does not match the authentic bag here is thin lettering squeezed together. Photograph the stamp flat and square to the camera.

Reading the Date Code and Checking the Date

A Dior Bobby date code reads two digits, two letters and four digits, such as 01-RU-0230. Resale authenticators read the last four digits in alternation, the first and third for the month and the second and fourth for the year. The date should fit a model Dior first showed in February 2020. A code that decodes to years before that does not fit the Bobby, however well its characters are stamped.

• Where it sits. Resale guides place the code on a small leather tab inside the bag, usually on the back of the tab that carries the Christian Dior stamp.
• The letters and first digits. The two letters are read as a workshop code and the first two digits have no agreed meaning. Dior has published neither, so do not judge a letter pair just because you have not seen it before.
• A date that fits proves nothing. The counterfeit in this guide is stamped 01-RU-0230, March 2020, which fits the Bobby perfectly.

The code dates manufacture, not sale. Some resale guides report that newer Dior bags carry an embedded chip in place of the visible code. Dior has not confirmed this, so on a recent Bobby a missing code is a question for the seller, not proof of a fake.

Photograph the whole code in one sharp frame. Then write down the last four digits and decode them before you judge the shape of a single character.

Version Details From Dior's Own Listings

Dior's own Bobby listings say what each version should have, so match your bag to one of them. Every listing I checked names a flap closure with a magnetic clasp under the decorative CD buckle, and every one says Made in Italy. The strap buckle, the back and the lining differ on the pin-buckle version Dior introduced for Cruise 2025, and its April 2026 Bobby page still carried references from both versions.

• Military-buckle version. Listings captured from 2022 to 2024 name a removable sliding leather strap with a Christian Dior military-inspired buckle, an embossed 30 MONTAIGNE signature on the back, a back pocket and an interior patch pocket. The box and grained calfskin bags add a suede calfskin interior.
• Pin-buckle version. The Cruise 2025 listings name a strap with pin buckles, a goatskin and calfskin lining and an interior slip pocket. They do not list the embossed back or the back pocket.
• Mixed features. A military buckle on a bag with a plain back matches neither description. Straps can be swapped, so ask for more photos rather than decide.

Take three photos: the back of the bag laid flat, the strap buckle up close and the inside with the flap open. Together they show which version the bag claims to be.

Flap Edge Stitching

Along the curved flap edge, the authentic stitches are slanted and each one runs into the next, so the row reads like a fine twisted cord set down into the leather. On this counterfeit each stitch is a separate rounded bead that stands up off the surface, with a small dip between beads.

• Stitch profile. In the bottom left crops each authentic stitch is a flat, angled dash. The counterfeit stitches are plump and rounded, like small beads on a string.
• How the row reads. In the top photos the authentic row looks like a continuous slanted line along the edge. The counterfeit row looks like a chain of separate dots.
• Bare leather. The bottom right crops show only leather. The grain differs, but the Bobby is made in both box and grained calfskin, so grain is not a tell.

The authentic photo here is soft, so weigh this below the stamps. Shoot in daylight, close and parallel to the flap, so each stitch angle is sharp.

Size, Dimensions and Style Reference

The Bobby comes in set sizes, and Dior lists the dimensions of each. Measure the length along the base, the height at the center and the depth, then find the size your bag matches. Dior gives 18 by 14 cm for the small, 22 by 17 cm for the medium, 27 by 20.5 cm for the large and 21 by 12 cm for the East-West.

• Allow a little movement. Dior's own 2025 listings note that size and weight can vary with the material, and soft leather is hard to measure exactly.
• The paperwork should agree. A receipt or listing that names a medium, or a reference starting M9319 or M9337, should come with a bag that measures like a medium.

Lay a tape measure along the base in the same photo as the front of the bag, so the size can be read from the picture itself.

Differences That Prove Nothing
